The BBKA have cancelled all practical assessments for 2020

The Basic Certificate is the first assessment in the BBKA The format of the Basic assessment was changed in 2016. There are now 4 sections. They all have to be passed in order to pass the assessment. It was changed because the assessors felt that swarming and swarm control was a weakness in some candidates. Swarming can cause a nuisance to neighbours and the public so beekeepers need to be proficient in this topic. To this end swarming is now in a separate section.

When: To be announced-when the weather is warm enough. Daytime obviously.
Where: We hope to be in the new teaching apiary at Hucknall. More details later
Who can come: Beekeepers who have kept bees for at least one season.
Assessment date: will be booked later but you do not have to take the assessment
Cost of the course: No cost to NBKA members. £30.00 to non members.
Cost of Assessment: ?-payable to BBKA. You can claim this back from the NBKA treasurer when you pass the assessment. Download the application form from the BBKA website.
What to bring to the practical: Suit/veil, boots, gloves (not the thick leather ones please, or use disposable plastic gloves over them for hygiene reasons), smoker, hive tool,
